Letter From The Editor: We decided to publish a quarterly newsletter as a way to keep everyone informed on the happenings at FRATZ'. We also thought it would be a fun way to share information related to the exciting sport of consignment.
We come honestly to this little endeavor with old roots in the art of treasure finding. It was the patriarch of our family who first spoke the words "But it?s still good!". As legend is told, Dad (age four), arrived home one day with an old, porcelain chamber pot in his wagon. Aunt Madeline took one look at the pot and exclaimed, "Kenneth what are you doing with that old, broken pee pot?" to which he innocently replied, "But it?s still good!" To this day we carry on the proud tradition of finding new homes for old pots!
Fratz' Consignment, with its star logo, is a tribute to Dad (Flint Police Officer) who died in 2001 after a ten month battle with brain cancer. It was while caring for him that we conceived and developed a business plan for the store. The star represents his honest spirit which continues to guide us. We chose Fenton because it is our hometown - we are all about family, home and community.
We opened FRATZ? on June 1, 2001. This little family enterprise would not have been possible without the support of our whole family (Mama FRATZ' and her brood of six kids plus in-laws and grandkids). Special thanks are given to our knowledgeable and VERY patient husbands. In addition to our family, we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our consignors who have stuck by us through the learning curve. We have learned a lot, made some mistakes, fixed some mistakes and tried to avoid as many other mistakes as we could!
We are dedicated to our concept of a friendly, family store that provides excellent service. We are always looking for ways to improve the FRATZ' experience. With the expansion in January, 2002, we added a new computer and check-in service desk, purchased additional shelving and hired some great, hard-working employees (the new shirts are very spiffy, too). Improvements for the coming year include reorganization of the kitchen room, improved lighting in the linen and kitchen room, Drop-n-Go Consignment Service and my annual haircut (if I have time).
Thank you for your support and friendship! We raise our gently used (and wonderfully priced) glass in a toast to all! Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season. (FRATZ? Consignment Newsletter December 2002, Issue 1.)
